Open House

What is Open – House Program???
This program was introduced in the beginning of term four and teachers agreed to give it a shot and see how it goes, for it is normal to see a supervisor in the classroom to observe and write comments about the teacher’s performance rather then parents being invited to be part of the teaching and learning activities that is taking place in the classroom.
The Open – House program took place in week four from the 18th to the 22ndOctober. Some parents and guardians booked the lessons they wanted to observe and were part of the class.

Singing is a way of expressing one’s feelings towards something or somebody. The students of
PNG Paradise High School brushed aside this thought and used the competition as a contest for displaying their singing skills.
The purpose of the competition was to develop and equip students with skills in music. The AIMS in the music program is to:
• Enable students to read, write and perform a variety of musical styles
• Encourage development of the through singing

The National Book Week

Art involves the making of visual images and objects. Styles, materials and techniques are chosen. Painting and drawing are just some of the many forms of art available.
The purpose of the competition was to develop and equip students with skills in drawing. The AIMS in the art program is to:
» Express ideas through artwork
» Explore, expose and unlock individuals abilities and talents
» Appreciate the Arts of Papua New Guinea and other countries
» Explore career paths for making a living from art

Bookworms are Rewarded

“There is always a room for perfection” And in order to be perfect, reading is essential. The PD Department has organized several activities to celebrate the National Book Week. Drawing and design competition were organized in various categories. In addition, the school also rewarded the bookworms in each grade. The best two from Primary and Secondary school were rewarded with an MP 4 player. The bookworms are

Spelling Bee (2010)

English Department had organized the ‘Paradise Spelling Bee 2010’ with the participation of about 150 students from Grade 6 to Grade 12. Parents, media and students witnessed a very challenging, exciting and enjoyable final for Junior Division (Grade 6 to 8) and Senior Division (Grade 9 to 12). There were 13 finalists from Junior Division and 12 finalists from Senior Division who challenged each other for the first, second and third prize. Students were given about 1500 words to study which contributed a lot for their vocabulary learning, spelling and pronunciation.

Essay Competition (2010)

Students participated in Paradise Essay Competition 2010 in junior and senior divisions. There were 40 entries from junior division and 20 entries from senior division from Grade 6 to 12. There were good number essays that were very well organized and written. English Department initiated the competition in order to discover the students who are good at writing and would be the future authors of PNG. A booklet will be compiled with the selected essays.

Music Competititon

Prior to the actual performance at the Sir John Guise Stadium on May 1, 2010, the participating students from PNG Paradise had a whole week of rehearsal. Since they (the students) were first‐timers in the competition, they were all looking forward to it. There was no turning back for them. NO WAY! Friday was the last day of rehearsals and the music room was crowded. Within 30 minutes the music teacher had to practice and go through with the six (6) groups. Four groups had to stay back after 3:30 to continue with their rehearsals.

Outstanding Archievement

As an educational institution striving to gain academic success, we are proud of what the school has achieved.  The aim of  PNG Paradise is to produce students who are of high academic standard.  The school has achieved some of its goals as through the performance of our outstanding students in 2009.
