Statistics Competition

Statistics Contest was organized by the Social Science Department. The overall aim was to teach students to investigate issues, collect data and      present their findings.There were 9 topics given and students can provide their own topic of interest too. There were 16 groups that took part, Grade 6—2 groups, Grade 7—1 group, Grade 9-9 groups and Grade 10-3 groups.They were judged    on their compilation of a booklet and powerpoint presentations.

Economics Debate

The debate on “HIV/AIDS HAS A NEGATIVE IMPACT ON THE ECONOMY” organized by The Economics and Business Studies Department was held on the 5th of April 2012 from 1:30 pm to 2:45 pm. The two participating teams  were Grade 12H (Affirmative) and Grade 11H (opposing).Team 12H comprised of Samuel Amaiu (4th Speaker), Eva Joke (1st Speaker), Jeremy Kila (2nd Speaker) and Maryfrances Isau (3rd Speaker).Team 11H comprised of Aisha Muka (1st Speaker), Talitha Michael (2nd Speaker), Celia Haro (3rd Speaker) and Eugene Nomono (4th Speaker). The chairman was Mr. Garry, Time Keeper Mr.

Orientation Program

The annual parent-teacher orientation program for 2012 commenced in week 3(21stFeb) and ended in week 4 (2nd March). This occasion is purposely for the parents to get to know the subject teachers of their children and also be informed of some administrative matters by Deputy Academic, Deputy Admin and the Principal. The subject teachers inform the parents on

·         The textbooks

Chess Week

Chess helps human being to practice different methods of thinking. It also produces an improvement in our children’s school achievements.
 IT Department organized the 2nd Chess Tournament between November 14 and November 25. Different from preceding tournaments this year, we used chess clock for the games. Students practiced an exciting phase of thier chess experience with chess clock.

Cultural Diversity Day

The Cultural Diversity Day took place on the 24th of September, 2011. It was an event organized by the school and coordinated by the PD Department. The theme for this year was ‘Paying Homage to Our Cultural Heritage’. There were three main activities on the day of the event; the Cultural DancesMr. and Ms Culture Quest, and The International Food Stall.

Australian Mathematics Competition

This event was introduced in Australia in 1978 as the first Competition in Australian Schools. In this time it has served almost all Australian secondary schools, providing feedback and enrichment to schools and students. It has become the largest single event on the Australian Education Calendar, allowing students to attempt the same tasks, on the same day in about 40 countries. It has become a truly international event, with countries throughout the Pacific and South East Asia, and some from even further afield taking part.

Information Technology Week

Paradise High School has hosted one the most enjoyable events of the year named Information Technology Week. It was the most memorable week of the year for many students. There were four different activities. The participation of the students was awesome. The activities were:

 

Typing Competition

 In this activity, students used Typing Master to compete. We collected their two scores. Winner of the activity was Ma'aldi Turkaul from grade 9 who scored 3590 pts.

Tapa Writing Competition

Tapa Pacific Publishing in conjunction with the Harvey Family Trust, the National Library of PNG and the Department of Education Curriculum Division organized a writing competition in August. The writing competition aimed at discovering and promoting writing talents in Papua New Guinea and prizes were awarded in three categories;
1. JUNIOR WRITERS (Primary students – Aged 8 – 13)

Mathletics Puzzle Contest

Mathletics is a puzzle contest which is organized by Paradise High School Mathematics Department. It is an international contest which is organized in PNG, Myanmar, Maldives and Laos. There are 3 levels in the contest. Upper Primary Level is for grade 7 and 8 students, Lower Secondary is for grade 9 and 10 and Upper Secondary is for grade 11 and 12 students. For each category, there are 20 questions with different points according to the level of difficulty. The questions are prepared in cooperation with the teachers of the Mathematics Department of the sister school in Myanmar.

Speech Contest

The Speech Contest is an Annual Event tasked by the English Department at PNG Paradise High School. This year 2011 the event was set for September 2. A committee comprising of Mathematics and English Department was formed purposely to coordinate the distribution and follow up of the invitation letters for the two major events – Mathletics for Mathematics Department and Speech Contest for English Department.  Twenty two schools were invited for the Speech Contest, but only eleven schools participated.
