THE 4TH EARLY CHILDHOOD WORKSHOP

Preschool education is a hot topic among parents and early childhood educators today.  Preschool education is the foundation for education. The skills and knowledge children develop in the preschool years will have a dramatic impact on life success. Research shows that of all the stages of your child’s life, the years between 3 and 5 are the most important in your child’s growth and development. That’s why preschool education is crucial for the journey to life-long learning. By making learning fun and easy at this age will help make individuals an eager lifelong learner.
Thus, it is vital for the children to get basic and developmental appropriate education in preschool that will impact on the success when the formal school begins.
On Saturday, November 15th, PNG Paradise High School hosted 4th Early Childhood Education Workshop at its own venue.  There were three workshops done previous years on the topics of Music & Movement, Games, Numeracy and Science Activities for young children. Thirty-four teachers from nine schools attended the 4th Early Childhood Education workshop.  The workshop contained four sessions:

  1. Lesson demonstration::: to discuss on teaching practice and implementation of effective methodologies
  2. Key points for teaching young learners:::  to remind and refresh the important points to bear in mind when teaching young learners with different learning styles and capabilities
  3. Guidelines on drawing lesson plans::: to focus on children’s developmental areas and include variety of learning subjects with inter-related activities
  4. Music & Movement::: to have an early exposure to music and connect music to cognitive and creative development, social, emotional and spatial intelligence

This enriching educational whole-day workshop was led by Mrs Kalayar Chaw who has an experience of ten years as a teacher, administrator and trainer in early childhood. All the participants had a great learning experience and opportunities to learn up-to-date teaching methods to implement in their day to day planning.

Comments from the participants
I would like to say thanks for a very excellent work you are doing for PNG. It’s my first time. I enjoyed it and learn many things. God bless you and continue the good work.

I have learnt a lot during the workshops. This training has given me the chance to become a very productive teacher, with better skills and attitude in my teaching carrier.
This workshop was very enlightening and knowledgeable especially for me as an administrator/trainer. I am now able to understand how important it is for me to help my teachers plan lessons in thematic manner in relation to five developmental areas. Thank you.

More than pleased with the whole session coz it has refreshed and reminded me of some of the areas that I’ve not being implementing much-especially to do with music and movement.

The workshop was excellent. I am really pleased with most of the topics that were presented. This workshop made it very simple and has made me understand why I really want to continue my career as a teacher. I learnt many new things.

It’s my great pleasure and honour to be a part of this one day workshop. I have learnt a lot and I wish and want this to continue in years to come. Congratulations, well done and keep it!
